Weeds as an inoculum source of parasitic fungi for cultivated plants
Numerous weed species that play an important role in disease epidemiology as a source of inoculum and as a connection between two vegetations, can be also seen as alternative hosts. Since new hosts to some fungus species were determined in this research, it can be concluded that knowledge on weeds’ role in the pathogenesis of arable crop diseases was expanded. Moreover, new information on micopopulation in Croatia was gained. The artificial infection experiments showed that isolates of pathogenic fungi from weeds can be even more pathogenic to cultivated plants than isolates from those plants themselves.
