Spectral Approach to Determination of Wave Run-up
The determination of wave run-up on the slopes of shore structures is necessary for defining the height of a particular structure. According to the classical engineering approach, the calculation of the run-up is done for a number of ideal waves, whose occurrence is related to a certain probability. Thus, to the calculated run-up is related the probability of occurrence of the wave for which the run-up has been calculated. The spectral approach presented in the paper introduces an additional quality in the determination of wave run-up, since it uses wave spectrum instead of ideal wave as the input parameter. On the basis of Saville's hypothesis of equivalence the amplitude operators of wave run-up are worked out. The resulting wave run-up spectrum is obtained by multiplying the given amplitude operators with the wave spectrum. In the end, the numerical example for the calculation of the proposed model is given, and a comparison with the classical approach for the determination of wave run-up is made.
