An Application of the Method of Characteristics in Unsteady Two-Dimensional Fluid Flow
This paper examines an application of the method of characteristics developed for unsteady two-dimensional viscid flow. Due to its great stability, high accuracy and low computer time consumption this method is used in many practical applications. The flow around a rectangular cylinder has been calculated using the developed method, in the range of the Reynolds numbers from 100 to 1600. The computed stream lines, base pressure, drag force and the Strouhal number are in agreement with experimental results.
