Implementing business rules in active databases
Although business rules have been gaining much attention lately, there is still no general agreement about what business rule really is, which explains why so many different definitions of this term exist. Since active databases began to be used as a means of implementing certain business rules, active databases technology has reached a level at which the assumption about writting different kinds of business rules can be fully established. Inasmuch as the term "business rules" has been redefined, determining whwther business rules - and what type of them - can be written in form of triggers, as well as analysing problems which may arise in the process, presents a new challenge. Although similar attempts have already been made, recent improvements in the fields of active databases technology and business rules provide the reason to consider the benefits to be achieved from combining these two fields.
