Precast Concrete Bridge Construction in Croatia
The most commonly applied method of road bridge superstructure construction in Croatia over the last fifty years has been with precast prestressed concrete girders. Croatian struc-tural engineers have been following trends used in more developed European countries, but they could not keep up with outstanding international achievements due to the lack of proper equipments needed in more complex construction procedures. During this period a great vari-ety of bridge superstructure cross-sections have been adopted, which will be shown first in this paper, along with a brief mention of various longitudinal layout arrangements. The emphasis in this paper is placed on the use of precast elements in complex structural systems, which are illustrated with the example of the World famous Krk bridge and two examples of small bridges.
