Changes of structural carbohydrates and protein fractions in the main plant species of the garrigue community
This paper presents the seasonal changes in the contents of the most important nutritive components of the dominant plant species of the garrigue community, Erico-Rosmarinetum officinalis (H-ic 1958). Samples of the plant material of the shrubby species Rosmarinus officinalis, Cistus monspeliensis, Cistus villosus, Erica multiflora, helichrysum italicum and grass Brachypodium retusum were analysed. The contents of the chemical composition (%in dry matter) in the investigated species weer as follows: ash 6.77 - 1.77 ; crude proteins (CP) 9.65 -4.40 ; acid detergent insoluble protein (ADIP) 6.32 - 1.81 ; acid detergent insoluble protein as % of crude protein (ADIP % of CP) 97.42 - 36.96 ; neutral detergent fibre (NDF) 51.34 - 23.06 ; acid detergent fiber (ADF) 42.78 - 14.99. IN accordance with the obtained results, considerably higher differences were established between the plant species than between seasons. For all the observed parametres, the differences between seasons within each species are extremely changeable. In the winter, the CP contents are the highest while those of the ADF are the lowest. The unavailable protein measured as ADP is the highest in summer. The nutritive value of the main plant species of the Erico-Rosmarinetum officinalis community was found to be very low compared to the most represented nutritive components especially during summer.
