Disturbance of lymphoid morphostasis provoked by halothane anesthesia in mice
Halothane anaesthesia provoked marked inhibition of plaque forming cells (PFC) generation in the spleen (p less than 0.01).This immunosupression was followed mostly by the changes in the spleen. The percentage of CD4+ cells and CD4/CD8 ratio was decreased, as well as total cellularity of the spleen, in which proportion of non CD4+, non CD8+ cells arose. At the same time the total nuber of cells in the thymus was unaffected, while the cellularity of bone marrow was decreased. The findings suggest that decrease of PFC generation in the spleen of halothane treated mice, sensitized with sheep red blood cells(SRBC)(T-dependent antigen), may be provoked by the change of CD4/CD8 ratio in the spleen.A similar decrease of ratio was found in peripheral blood of patients after general endotracheal anaesthesia.
