Review of some oximes as antidotes against experimental organophosphate poisoning

The paper summarizes in vitro and in vivo studies on selected pyridinium, imidazolium and quinuclidinium oximes, which were prepared as antidotes against warfare agents, particularly against Tabun and Soman. In vitro studies comprised binding of oximes to native acetylcholinesterase and reactivation of the phosphylated acetylcholinesterase. The antidotal effect was tested on mice or rats by determining the therapeutic factor when the oximes (plus atropine) were applied immediately after the organophosphorus compound.
