Bending of refined MDF boards
The article discusses the influence of grinding, depth of grinding and surface refinement on the stability of MDF boards. In the experiment discussed, the commercial MDF boards of 25-mm thickness and of 100 x 500 mm size were used. Some MDF board samples were ground at one side only, while some were ground at both sides. The depth of grinding was 0, 8 and 15 mm. Decorative laminates of 0, 2 mm were used for surface refinement. The samples were refined at both sides. Substantial bending was observed on the boards ground on one side only. These boards see an increase in bending proportional to an increase in the depth of grinding. When refined, the boards get an increase in bending to a greater extent.
