Ecologically friendly disinfection in closed water subsystems

In general, varies types of subsystems like separated hot and cold water distribution systems (hospitals, hotels, commercial centers, apartment buildings), recirculating loops, cooling towers and public swimming pools are supplied with water from closest potable water distribution systems. As the water usage in these subsystems frequently includes prolonged retention, recirculating, heating/cooling, intense contact with air, etc, there is great possibility of microbiological contamination. Therefore, almost all of these usages require additional disinfection that could be chemical, like addition of chlorine related chemicals, ozone or other biocides, or physical like application of heat or UV irradiation. This paper presents the analysis of the UV technology of disinfection, especially when concerned for specific water usage and distribution systems.
