Superstructure Deck Effectiveness Of The Generic Ship Types - A Concept Design Methodology
The influence of extensive superstructure and upper decks in the primary strength must be considered in the early concept design phase where most important, not always optimal, decisions are made. The objective of this paper is to present (a) characteristic aspects of structural interactions between the lower hull and superstructure for generic ship types (based on the full-ship FEM models of car carrier, cruise ship, tank-car carrier, livestock carrier) and (b) algorithm for their synthesis in the concept design phase that combines fast generation of FE model (using macro-elements) and decision support through fast optimization method (SLP and FFD). Design / sensitivity study of tank-car carrier structure is presented as an example
