Experimental evaluation of the cross sections for the Cs(6D) -> Cs(7PJ) and Cs(6D5/2) -> Cs(6D3/2) collisional transfer processes induced by He and Ar
The cross sections for collisional excitation transfer Cs(6D) -> Cs(7P1/2) (QD3)and Cs(6D) -> Cs(7P3/2) (QD4), and fine structure mixing Cs(6D5/2) -> Cs(6D3/2) (Q65) due to collisions with helium and argon atoms at temperatures in the range between 333 and 367 K were determined by fluorescence method. The cross sections for the processes Cs(6D) + He, Ar -> Cs(7PJ) + He, Ar were found to be QD3(He) = (0.9 +/- 0.4)x10^(-16) cm^2, QD4(He) = (2.6 +/- 1.3) x10^(-16) cm^2, QD3(Ar) = (1.2 +/- 0.6) x10^(-18) cm^2 and QD4(Ar) = (2.6 +/- 1.3) x10^(-16) cm^2. The obtained values are consistent with the results obtained at higher temperatures and reported previously. The cross sections for the He and Ar -induced 6DJ fine-structure mixing were determined to be Q65(He) = (54 +/- 15) x10^(-16) cm^2 and Q65(Ar) = (17 +/- 5) x10^(-16) cm^2 and were found to fit very well into the existing body of cross section data for intra-multiplet (nP1/2 -> nP3/2, nD5/2 -> nD3/2) mixing in cesium induced by collisions with helium and argon.
