Maize rresponse to fertilization with KCl under conditions of eastern Croatia
In the period 1984-2003 the field experiments tested the application of increased rates of potassium chloride (KCl). In general, it was found mainly considerable influences on grain yields of maize, stalk lodging (SL) resistance and composition of leaves. For example, in the Mikanovci trial, rates up to 2670 kg K2O/ha were applied and maize yields (3-year means) increased from 1.93 (control) to 7.64 t/ha. At same time, the nutritional (the ear-leaf composition) and SL status of maize were improved In the second trial 1400 kg K2O/ha was applied and maize yield was increased for 14% (mean of five hybrids), while SL decreased from 42% (control) to 18%. The OsSK444 and Florencia hybrids were resistant, while OsSK458, OsSK552 and Bc5982 were susceptible to SL on K- deficient soil.
