Dance - a message we should understand

In various cultures the messages of dance can vary, so that the real meaning of a dance can be understood only by uncovering its role in the life of a specific group, ethnic or national community. The stage presentations of folklore are mostly the impressions of the participants in particular dance event, but they are also influenced by the public, dominant conceptions and cultural policy. That is why we can talk about the several main paradigms in Croatian folk stage presentations through the past eighty years. Particular dance events during the last decade (specially after the war in Croatia and the separation from the former socialist Yugoslavia) show us different identities of the performers, no matter of conceptions and the ways of presentation in which they occur.
