THE STANDARD SUB-OPTIMAL DETECTION STRUCTURE OF THE PASSIVE SONAR
The paper deals with the statistical sub-optimal passive detection of the weak underwater vessel acoustic signal. The standard sub-optimal detection structure is synthesized using the likelihood ratio statistical test and the Neyman-Pearson criterion. To evaluate the standard sub-optimal detection structure performances the receiver operating characteristics diagrams are investigated. The results of this research show that the standard sub-optimal detection structure is acceptable only for the vessels with negligible noise effect of the operating machinery, mechanisms and propeller compared to the cavitation noise. Besides, the results of this research also show that the standard sub-optimal detection structure (compared to the optimal one) is not able to detect the vessel noise (signal), on the receiving location, if the signal to noise energy ratio is very low.
