The influence of sulphuric acid concentration and molar ratio at the leaching of antigorite
The starting material used in this study was mineral antigorite, dominant constituent of serpentinite mineral raw material from the locality Ljeskovac, Croatia. Thermal treatment of used antigorite, (Mg, Fe)3 Si2 O5 (OH)4 has destroyed original crystal lattice and resulted in amorphous mixture of free oxides: magnesium oxide and silica. Optimum leaching paremeters for sulphuric acid pulp were found: the concentration of sulphuric acid 4 mol/dm3 and the molar ratio sulphuric acid/thermally treated antigorite of 10, when the other parameters like leaching time (4 hours), the reaction temperature (105+-5 C) and the mixing rate (500/min) were kept constant. That combination gave the highest extent of 49, 74 mass % of thermally treated antigorite and the amorphous silica as product.
