Experimental study of strip dipole FSS-loaded rectangular waveguide
Periodic structures can be used to control the propagation behavior or the boundary conditions of electromagnetic fields. Under certain circumstances, the surfaces of such structures behave as artificial magnetic conductors (AMC). These surfaces may realize so-called quasi-TEM waveguides , in which a frequency selective surface (FSS) is printed on each of the two substrates of a sidewall-loaded rectangular waveguide. At the resonant frequency (or TEM frequency), the surface impedance is maximum, giving rise to the so-called hard boundary condition. Alternative to the common Jerusalem crosses, rectangular strip dipoles may be used as the elements of the FSS-loaded waveguide . Theoretical study on such dipole FSS loaded waveguide have been performed recently . The purpose of this paper is to present an experimental support for the phenomena predicted by theory.
