Industrial floors under impact loading
Industrial floors usually consist of several layers with different characteristics that have to be capable of resisting aggressive industrial environments. Different objects used during the manufacturing process can cause impact loading. Resultant stress waves in the floor structure depend on the stiffness ratio between contacting masses, material parameters of specified layers and boundary conditions. The semi-destructive method for testing industrial floor overlays under impact loading was developed in consideration of the basic principles of floor construction and expected loading. The test method provides evaluation of material according to the energy needed to produce the first crack or other type of failure. The effects of impact loading were experimentally measured and results obtained were used for detailed computer model studies. Various combinations of thickness and modulus of elasticity of industrial floor layers, boundary conditions and size of the specimen were used to determine their influence on damage risk.
