Alloying effects of Mo, Ni and Ti on the as-cast Co-Cr biomedical alloys
Tvelwe Co-Cr base alloys were designed with increasing content of alloying elements in the range from 4 to 10 at.%. Most of experimental alloys show typical two-phases dendritic solidification microstructure. Two phases of similar compositions are identified as fcc and hcp Co-rich solid solutions. Hardness of alloys increases with titanium, molybdenum and chromium content and decreases with nickel content. The best corrosion resistance have Co-Cr-Ti alloys. Comparing the effects of alloying elements on the properties of Co-Cr alloys has been concluded that some Co-Cr-Ti alloys can be excellent candidates for biomedical applications.
