From Micelles and Vesicles to Nano- and Microtubes in Alkylammonium Chloride/Sodium Cholate Mixtures
Investigation of interactions in aqueous mixtures of alkylammonium chloride and sodium cholate revealed that adsorption at the air/solution interface and formation of various nano- and microstructures in bulk phase strongly depend on the molar ratio, the total concentration and molecular structure of both components. Competition between various molecular interactions (hydrophobic, electrostatic, van der Waals, hydrogen bonding, etc.) may result in formation of mixed monolayer at the air/solution interface and mixed micelles, vesicles, open multibilayers and tubules of catanionic surfactant in the bulk phase. The surfactants mixed non-ideally in both mixed monolayer and in mixed micelles. The regular solution theory was used for evaluation the non-ideal interactions between surfactant molecules in adsorbed and micellar state.
