Review of: Feyaerts, Kurt, (Ed.). (2003). The Bible through metaphor and translation: A cognitive semantic perspective
The present volume has grown out of two conferences, the 25th LAUD symposium on “ Metaphor and Religion” (held at Schloss Krickenbeck in 1997), and the symposium “ Meaning, Metaphor & Religion: Cognitive Semantics and the Bible” (held in Leuven in 1998). The main aim of the volume is to seek answers to the question: “ [… ] to what extent the Bible in its metaphors and translations can be reinterpreted without neglecting its original content as well as its actual context, the latter being the religious community in which the Scriptures are supposed to function as a useful companion in social and religious life [… ]” . (p. 8) The structure of the volume reflects its two main aspects, i.e. metaphor and transla-tion, which also serve as section titles. “ Section I” contains six essays dealing with the interpretation and processing of metaphors in the Bible, while “ Section II” includes five papers about various issues of Bible translation.
