The Croatian movement started in 1994. with organisation of the First Symposium on Hospice and Palliative Care and foundation of the Croatian Society for Hospice and Palliative Care, as part of Croatian Medical Association. From the beggining of the movement is oriented to involve existent medical structures. As independent civil society, the Croatian association of Hospice Friends, for logistical purposes was founded in 1999. October 2002. Regional Hospice Center in Zagreb ( capital of Croatia ) was opened, owned by CAHF and supported by Ministry of Health was held. In summer 2003. the new croatian law on the health protection was issued with many articles involving palliative care.
