Primjeri procjene efektivne doze zračenja
Ideally, limits for radioactive contamination of food should be based on scientific recommendations derived from risk analysis. In practice however economic interests and protection of internal markets compromise radiation standards carefully worked out over the past 60 years. This paper presents European standards for radiocaesium in foodstuffs after the Chornobyl accident and some examples of effective dose assessment of 137Cs. Croatian legislation regulating radiation protection has been harmonised with international and European standards. The calculated maximum permissible activity concentration of 137Cs in water was calculated value of 524 Bq/L. This value was compared with 137Cs activity concentrations measured in some samples processed in Radiation Protection Unit of the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health. We also assessed the contribution of ingested 137Cs to the effective dose. For the considered samples, we argue that fractions of measured 137Cs activity concentrations in limit values are very low, in spite of very stringent radiation standards. Consequently, the contribution to the effective dose is very small (< 0.1 mSv).
