Impact of a Fish Farm on physical and chemical Properties of Sediments and Water column in the middle Adriatic Sea
Intensive maricultural activities, particularly tuna breeding which present yearly production rate exceed 4000 tones, have been developed at the central Croatian coast recently. Recognizing the fact that fish farms represent an important source of nutrients (especially nitrogen and phosphorus species), due to inputs of excretory metabolic products and uneaten food into semienclosed areas, which may cause eutrophication, it was decided to introduce monitoring of fish farming impacts on the marine environment. The paper presents results of a monitored impacts of one tuna breeding farm on physical and chemical properties of sediments and water column.
