Coastal zone management: macroeconomic implications
While non - Mediterranean country's reaction on the jeopardizing of the coastal zone by the activities on the coast and sea came from the local level, implementation of the coastal zone management models in the Mediterranean basin came from government level. Namely, central government in these countries has taken over responsibility for maritime and coastal resources. However, even in the cases where "top to the bottom" approach is adopted, private sector plays an important role the realization of sustainable development of coastal areas. Thus, as a consequence of active policy of coastal zone management, complex network of local - national relations is being created in which macroeconomic policies and measures obtain transformed (alternated, different) both intensity and direction.
