Examination of Ho(Ni_1_-_xAl_x) by WPPD method
Alloy system Ho(Ni_1_-_xAl_x) was studied by x-ray powder diffraction. Diffraction data were analysed by the whole powder pattern decomposition (WPPD) method, which simultaneously decomposed the powder pattern into individual lines and refined the unit cell parameters. The profile fitting was performed using the split-type pseudo Voigt profile function and the polynomial background model, with 27 adjustable parameters per component. The samples are hexagonal with the CaCu_5 or YCo_3Ga_2 type structure. Unit cell parameters increased with the Al content but not linearly. The coefficient of linear thermal expansion decreased as the Al content increased, being larger along the a-axis than along the c-axis.
