Sharing Culture(s)
Throguh a shift from the literary to cultural studies a concept of universal human culture has been put into question. To avoid the hegemony and repression implied by its homogeneous aesthetic standards, universal culture has been replaced by a plurality of particular cultures. Such a socio-political « ; zoning politics» ; of culture was supposed to eliminate the former tacit asymmetry among cultural values. However, according to the thesis put forth in this paper, the dissolution of a universal aesthetic into particular political values cannot change the exclusionary character of culture. Instead of being opposite to culture, discrimination is a constitutive part of it.
