Children's welfare in the context of social and economic changes in Croatia
This study is a country study of children's welfare which covers three broad topics: children's economic and social welfare, children's access to space and use of time as well as children's rights and discourses. It is the result of work in the COST (A19) Action -- Children's Welfare. The paper gives an overview of economic and demographic data, changes in social policy, family structure, the school system and other aspects of the broad social context in Croatia that affect childhood and children's everyday lives in modern societies. Some new topics are introduced and discussed such as children's market dependency and children's use of time and access to space. The available statistical data was recalculated and interpreted in a way that makes children visible as the subject of analysis with the aim to display the impact of macro social influence on children's lives and to situate children in a generational distribution of resources at the societal and familial level.
