Sustainable Development and Preservation of Natural Resources of a Tourist Destination
The ecological approach to tourism tries to improve natural, physical and ambiental values of the landscape. In this economic branch there is an interaction between visitors and the physical surroundings, a relationship between alive and non-alive components of the ecological system. The complex relationship between tourist development and the environment depends on numerous characteristics and quality of an area. Significant risks are always present in very sensitive areas planning tourist development, where conflicts with the environment are very likely. Moderate and well-balanced tourist development can help maintain the quality of the environment, while mass tourism, like an industry, produces new risks for the environment. The authors of this paper will try to give some answers to the questions what tourism has done in some particular cases: if it has really tried to preserve the environment, if it has improved the environment aesthetically in the direction of human ideals, if it has just made a rough transformation or even if it has done undesirable and undetermined damage to the environment.
