Effect of chemical-mechanical weed control upon the yield of soybean seeds
Efficient weed control is one of the most important agrotechnical measures in the production of soybean seeds. Knowing about the possibility of replacing traditional sowing enabling combination of chemical and mechanical weed control, a three-year trial (1995-1997) was set up at the experimental facility of the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb in order to evaluate the applicability of band sowing (which enables inter-row treatment) in comparison with the traditional sowing involving complete chemical weed control. Thus, trial material designated ZgExL910631 was sown in a) 42,5 cm spaced rows; b) 18 cm spaced rows; c) 50+35 cm bands; d) 60+25 cm bands; and e) 70+15 cm bands in three sowing standards: 35, 50 and 65 plants/m2. The obtained results indicate that it is possible to modify the sowing method in order to increase the possibilities of inter-row treatment. Among the options tested, the combination of band sowing and chemical weed control over 65% sowing area proved to be the best in terms of the yields achieved and hence it will be the subject of further research.
