Potassium avilability in hydromorphic soils of Eastern Croatia
Unfavorable air-water relationships have been limiting factors of field crop yields on some soils. Considerably improved soil properties and yields were achieved by hydromelioration. A total of 161.530 ha of agricultural land in Croatia is drained, and as many as 53.619 ha of that in the narrow lowland part of the Sava river valley (Petošić, 2001). However, nutritional disorders closely connected with potassium (K) deficiency (growth retardation, edge necrosis and chlorosis of leaves) and low yields of some field crops were found on some drained soils (Kovačević and Vukadinović 1992, Kovačević and Bašić 1997). The aim of this study is to test the status of plant available K on some hydromorphic soils by different fertilizer regimes situated in Sava lowland area. Phosphorus status on these soils was elaborated in the previous study (Petošić et al. 2003).
