Foreign languages and cochlear implant: verbotonal approach
Foreign languages are the integral part of the verbotonal rehabilitation. They were included into the rehabilitation programme to enlarge its phonetic and linguistic aspects, to introduce new sounds and new prosodical patterns of rhythm, intonation and melody. The programme of foreign languages learning with hearing impaired persons has several aims: - enrichment of the rehabilitation programme ; - improvement of listening skills ; - improvement of verbal communication in general ; - use of the new hearing possibilities given by cochlear implant to develop and improve speech elements that mostly depend on listening (prosodical elements, quality of the voice and speech expression in general) ; - psychological stimulation and a new opening for hearing impaired persons towards new cultures and knowledge. The case studies of cochlear implant users and foreign language rehabilitation programme will be presented.
