EDXRF Spectroscopy of Ink-jet Materials
Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorecsence (EDXRF) spectroscopy represent a qualitative analysis of the ash-samples. This method enables us to determine concentrations of elements in the ashes (Pb, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Co). Ash-samples were prepared from several different papers and also from Ink-Jet prints made on the same substrates, using both dye and pigment inks. The incineration of papers and prints was done in the Mufoln oven as described in ISO 2144 and T 413 standards. As the analysis is performed on the ash-samples, it is not possible to differentiate the concentration of the elements in the coatings from those from basic paper structure of coated substrates. The determination of elements in Ink-Jet printing materials may help in explaning the ink-paper interaction during the drying proces as well as in the de-inking stage of the recycling proces.
