Total Dry Matter Production of cv.Istrian Malvasia under Different Bud Loads and Rootstocks on Spur Cordon Training System. First Results
The aim of this investigation was to confirm the influence of different bud loads and rootstocks on total dry matter production of Istrian Malvasia variety. The experiment has been set in a production vineyard established in 1994 and 1995 on the rootstocks Kober 5 BB and 420 A, in location Persurici near Porec. The type of soil is the typical red Mediterranean soil, called “ Terra rossa” . The training system is a spur cordon with three bud loads, 20, 30 and 40 buds per vine or 57 000, 85 000 and 115 000 buds per hectare. Plant density is 2, 8 x 2, 5 m spacing between wines, two vines in pair, or 2857 vines per hectare, respectively. The following parameters have been validated: yield per vine, soluble solids in must, approximately leaf surface (A.L.S.) per vine, dry matter of clusters per vine, dry matter of pruned wood per vine and total dry matter production per vine. The obtained data were statistically analyzed to establish the optimal bud load and the optimal leaf surface per vine for the satisfactory production of dry matter for both investigated rootstocks.
