Numerical model of the tram-track interaction with and without irregularity on rail running surface
The research described in this paper is based on 8-year monitoring period of execution of the new and reconstruction and upgrading of the existing tram tracks in Zagreb on the high value traffic surfaces of the city core. The impact of geometric irregularity of the rail surface on increase of dynamic impact on the tram track has been observed and researched. A computer programme for simulation of vehicles moving along the tracks has been made for the need of this research. The rail is modeled as elastically supported continuous beam with lumped masses. A vehicle is approximated as a discrete system consisting of three rigid masses connected with linear elastic springs. Dissipation mechanisms in the system are modeled with the linear dashpots. The verification of the computer programme has been done, as only the verified programme can be used to clarify some theoretical and practical dilemmas. By comparing the results of measurement and calculation, a very good congruity (correspondence) of experiment and simulation by means of the computer programme was found out. The adjustment of the results of the calculation and measurement prove and confirm the validity of the computer programme for survey of the issue of interaction between vehicle and track and the possibility of its application in the everyday engineering practice.
