From Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić's tale Regoč to the mathematics text-book
In the past few years in Croatia has been much effort to make teaching in general, and this refers to teaching mathematics too, more student-oriented. The attempt to reduce the number of class contact hours has lead to the reorganization of the programm, new methods are being introduced, more attention is paid to motivation and correlation, and creation of text-books and teaching material that are psychologically and physicaly betteradjusted to children's need. This paper explains the reasonS for choosing Regoč as an underlying theme for a mathematics book for first grades. The aim was to offer mathematics teachers a text-book that provides for pupil's activities and has an educational value, which we believe is often negleted in the teaching of mathematics.
