Analysis of Water Demand Management

The paper analyzes the concept of the water demand management incorporated into the sustainable water systems development. Traditionally, water supply and demand has been balanced by developing new sources. Sustainable development is shifting the emphasis to water demand management. New approach are required to manage water use efficiently, including policy making, economic incentives and tariff design, leakage reduction, and waste minimization. Water demand management is a approach that aimes to meet water demand. It promote efficient and equitable use of water as well as a mater of water conservation measures aimed to raising awarness on the scarcity and finite nature of the water resources. Urban, industrial and agricultural water demand has been analyzed. In frame of sustainability of the water resources and the environment, the technological approach, pricing approach and water reuse has been examined. Planned and implemented long-term water program can reduce water consumption 10-20 percent over 10-20 years. In addition, restrictive pricing schemes, public information campaigns to achieve further reductions in water, can be implemented. Demand management and water conservation is essential for the sustainability of water resources and the environment, as well as economic efficiency and social development. Integrated water management ensures sustainable management and development of water resources.
