Influence of the Combination of the Initial Colour Space and the Rendering Methods on the Gamut Volume of the Electrophotographic and Inkjet Imprints

The aim of the investigation was to determine in printing technology the influence of the most used potential colour spaces of originals (RGB, CMYK i L*a*b*), on the gamut size of their reproductions. According to that, the corresponding test form was designed for the needs of investigations, made in three mentioned potential starting colour spaces and printed on identical substrate in two most often used digital printing techniques (electrophotography and Inkjet) with the application of ICC standard rendering methods (perceptual method, saturation method, relative colorimetric method and absolute colorimetric method). Based on the results obtained by spectrophotometric measurements, the constructions of particular and comparative gamut presentations of particular samples were modeled and their volume was calculated. The investigation results show the existence of a series of repeatable mutual relations regarding the chosen starting colour space of the original ; used the digital printing technique, and the applied rendering method.
