Supply Chain Management Survey of Croatian Manufacturing Companies
In a recent study conducted by Rungtusanatham et al. (2003) supply chain management (SCM) was cited as the least explored among all operations management (OM) topics in six major OM journals. SCM is evolving and changing rapidly and is included in almost all new OM textbooks. In Croatia the field is still relatively unexplored. Croatia applied to join the EU with the aim to accede in 2007. This imposes major improvements to the Croatian companies. They must be prepared to compete with best European companies. The authors propose SCM as one of the answers to these challenges. This paper explores SCM practices in 142 Croatian firms. The results show that the field is relatively new to most of the Croatian companies and only 15.5% of the surveyed group have the signs of the SCM practice. The paper presents useful conclusions for practitioners, policy makers and educators.
