Occurence of iron bacteria in mineral water from different wells of Jamnička Kiselica
Iron bacteria are a diverse group of bacteria that are able to oxidize and/or deposit iron oxide extracellulary, or sometimes intracellulary. They are commonly found in waters that provide a continuous supply of ferrous ions. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the presence/absence of iron bacteria in mineral waters, containing iron, from different wells in Jamnička Kiselica. According to experimental results the presence of iron bacteria in the mineral waters from different wells was proved. It was shown, by microscopic examination of enrichment cultures, that autotrophic iron bacterium belonging to the genus Gallionela is present in high- and low- mineralized waters, while sheath-forming bacterium /Leptothrix-type/ is found in technological and low-mineralized water as well.
