Social-psychiatric aspects of autism
Abstract This is a case report of an autistic boy who was not recognized nor treated until he was sixteen years old. He lived in a centre of a small town with his mother who suffered from schizophrenic psychosis. The authors discuss numerous social-psychiatric and other multidisciplinary aspects of autism the psychiatrists, family practice physicians, stomatologists, psychologists, social workers, special teachers and parents of autistic children have encountered while attempting to deal with the problem. Topical issues are considered, such as specialists’ and other professionals’ qualifications regarding the subject, quality of diagnostics, non-existence of a register for this particular population and the difficulty to estimate the number of persons with the disorder.<b><b>Sažetak Prikazan je slučaj autističnog dječaka koji je neliječen i neprepoznat do svoje šesnaeste godine živio u centru maloga grada sa svojom majkom oboljelom od shizofrene psihoze.
