Synchronous Dynamics in Coupled Cell Networks
Interacting nonlinear oscillators are of interest in many areas of physics, biology and engineering. In the biological science, one of the main challenging problems is to understand how a group of cells or functional units, each displying complicating nonlinear dynamic phenomena, can interact with one another to produce a coherent response on a higher organizational level introducing a novel concept of chaotic synchronization. A coupled cell system, where a single cell is described by a system of ODEs, is a network of dynamical systems coupled together. The output of certain cells affects the time-evolution of the other cells. In this talk we describe examples of surprising kinds of synchrony and dynamics that occurs in coupled cell network as consequences of the network architecture. Some biological examples of synchronization will be presented.
