On geometrically nonlinear elastic-plastic computation of compound shell structures
The contribution presents a numerical concept for the geometrically nonlinear elastic-plastic analysis of shell structures. The constitutive equation for an elastic-plastic material model was derived using von Mises yield criterion and assuming isotropic strain hardening. A doubly curved layered finite element based on a tensor-oriented displacement formulation was presented. Its efficiency is demonstrated by the computation of compound shell structures in the form of torispherical heads. The hoop stress distribution and the spreading of plastic regions through the shell thickness were computed.
