Preservation of polymer dispersions by chlorinated methylisothiazolone microbiocide
The effectiveness and optimal concentration of microbiocidal agent chlorinated methylisothiazolone for the in-can preservation of water-based polymer dispersions, such as adhesives and paints, has been studied. To establish optimal concentration, microbiocidal property of active substance is tested on selected pure microbial cultures. The results suggested that the inhibition of microbial growth depended on concecntration of active substance and resistance of microorganism. Therefore, in real system, a complete antibacterial and antifungal in-can preservation of investigated adhesives and water-based paints is achieved with chlorinated methylisothiazolone in the range of mass concetrations from 40 mg/L to 70 mg/L.
