Relationship Between Femoral Anteversion and Neck-shaft Angle
An original projection method for measurement of femoral anteversion and neck-shaft angle was used in this study and the correlation between the obtained values studied to determine the accuracy of this method and its advantages over the available alternatives. The method was applied on 38 cadaveric specimens of human femur from adults of both sexes. The neck-shaft angle was measured in two typical positions. The first position considered the angle of anteversion, while in the second position the angle of anteversion was annulled by rotation of the femur along its longitudinal axis. The differences in angulation correlate considerably with the degree of femoral anteversion. By accurate determination of certain parameters, such as the longitudinal axis of the femoral shaft and the femoral neck, measurement errors can be avoided.
