The effect of soil type and fertilization variants on Mg concentrations in seven inbred lines of maize (Zea mays L.)
Seven corn inbred lines were grown under field conditions on three soil types of the Eastern Croatia for three growing seasons (1993-1995). Fertilization treatments (the first year of testing only) were as follows: a) 875 kg P2O5/ha, b) 875 kg K2O/ha; c) a+b. There was tendency of increasing yield of kernels on all three soil types with increasing Mg concentrations, depending on the fertilization variant. The Mg concentrations in the leaf under the corncob in the beginning of silking varied in dependence of the year, the soi type fertilization treatments and the inbred line. The lowest Mg concentrations was found on the pseudoglay/glay in 1993 on the control plot under the inbred line Os36-16 (0.22% Mg) while the highest Mg conc. was found in 1995 on pseudogley fertilized with P in the inbred line Os86-39 (0.87% Mg).
