Flexures - The Use of Elasticity in SR Instruments Design

The main characteristics of compliant mechanisms based on spring-strips and flexural notches are illustrated. The analytical methods used to model their behaviour in the field of geometric non-linearities, as well as the experimenal validation of these methods, are provided. Several examples of the usage of flexure-based mechanisms at synchrotron radiation facilities are used to illustrate the advantages of the concept.
