Protection and Supply Transfer of Services Buses in Thermal Power Plant

The solution of protection systems for main and auxiliary system in thermal power plant (TPP) are shown in this paper. The protection of auxiliary system (unit transformer, induction motors, auxiliary and service buses) and possibility of achieving a proper level of selectivity with main generator/transformer protection system. Post-analyses of operation events in some TPP's of Croatian power system, arranged testing in laboratory and real conditions show that already build-in high-speed transfer units passes functionality tests, but it is also carried out that those units cannot operate well at certain conditions to keep auxiliary plant in service. A new conception of high-speed transfer unit is suggested, based on mathematical model of residual voltage on service buses.
