Impact of Impeller Position on the Complete Drawdown of Floating Solids in Agitated Vessel Provided with Multiple Impellers
The effects of the off-bottom impeller clearance and the spacing between impellers on the minimum impeller speed for complete drawdown of floating solid particles and power consumption values were investigated in single- and double-impeller system using 4-straight blade turbines (SBT). High-density polyethylene particles and tap water were used as the solid and liquid phase respectively. The results of this study indicate that the presence of the second SBT impeller on the same shaft improves the performance of the agitation system for the process of floating solids suspension. The values of FrJS and (P/m)JS are the strong function of the impeller position. With an increase of the values of h1/H and s/H, the just suspended impeller speed and the power requirements decrease. These facts support the idea that the higher impeller, which is closer to the solids being suspended, plays a key role in the floating solid suspension process.
