Causes and Consequences of Migration of Croatian Population After the Second World War Towards the Mediterranean (with particular attention to refugee camps in Italy from 1945-1950s)

At the end of the World War II, a part of "right oriented" Croatian population leaves their homeland because of the situation in the new formed state Yugoslavia and departs for Italy where they are taken care of in the refugee camps and from where later on they are directed to Australia, the USA, South America and Africa. The article analyzes the postwar migration of the Croatian population from Croatia to Italy (specifically towards the postwar refugee camps of Italy), and afterwards from Italy to the other continents where a substantial number of Croatian emigrants lives even today. The research area covers the Balkans, Croatia, the Mediterranean and Italy. The notion of postwar migration covers the migration of population after the World War II. In this way, the time framework starts with the year 1945 when the Second World War has officially ended, and ends with the year 1950 of the last century. The main aims of the article are to research and determine the causes of Croatian population migration towards Italy ; to determine the motives and reasons why Croatian population migrates from Italy (often permanently) towards the other continents ; and to conclude about the consequences of Croatian population migration and the about their long-term effects in Croatia.
